SCREECH

So Screech As legend has it, is a Demerara Rum , from The West Indies. Salt fish was shipped out to the Indies in exchange for rum!

So as legend goes  during WW II, the Americans set up bases in NFDL. And one night an American service was out drinking with some locals, eager to try the traditional drink of the province, he took a shot of this unnamed rum.

Once the American was able to breath again he let loose a loud noise. Sympathetic persons came rushing to the house where the young serviceman was and among the first to arrive was an old American sergeant who pounded on the door demanding "What the cripes was that ungodly screech"??

The Newf who had answered the door replied simply, "The screech"?? 'Tis the rum, me son."

Thus was born a legend.

As word of the incident was passed around, the soldiers determined to try this mysterious "screech" and finding its effects as devastating as the name implies, adopted it as their favorite.

Join us at O'Shea's this October to "Get SCREECHED!" yourself

The SCREECHED Ceremony:

The ceremony host will have the victim stand in front of a group of witnesses.

The host will then hold up the fish to the victim so that the victim can kiss the fish (on the lips).

{The host and witnesses have final say on whether the kiss is sufficient to continue. In rare cases, two or more kisses have to be administered}.

Next, the host will gingerly pour a full shot of Screech. This is handed to the victim and he or she has to repeat the following, before drinking, and while holding the glass high:

"Long may your big jib draw"

After this, present the victim with the “Screech In” Certificate as proof of their adventure. Welcome them into the Royal Order of Screechers.
